The President Ollanta Humala gave each of the medal-winning athletes at the Pan American Games Toronto 2015 the promised prize.
At the ceremony at the Government Palace, Humala thanked everyone for bringing the name of Peru high. "Thank you very much for giving us this joy, and thanks to your families for cheering and pushing you," he said at the beginning of his speech.
"The Pan American team fills us with pride. Keep training because there are more responsibilities," he said in reference to Rio 2016 and the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
"They put Peru in the spotlight of the world. They put the country that moves forward with its athletes," he emphasized.

Ollanta Humala also had words for Francisco Boza, who left the presidency of the IPD when he was involved in the Belaunde Lossio case. "Pancho, well done. So much noise, so many criticisms. Your best response is that medal," he told Boza, who won gold in shooting.
There were 14 athletes awarded with money checks. One of the most applauded was Gladys Tejeda, who is under evaluation by Odepa for a supposed positive.
