Claude Makelele becomes new coach of KAS Eupen
The former French football player Claude Makelele, who was assistant coach to Paul Clement at Swansea, has become the new coach of Belgian team KAS Eupen until 2020.
Makelele, 44, former player of PSG, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Celta, Olympique de Marseille and Nantes, has signed a two and a half year contract and will take charge of the team on Tuesday. On the same day, his official presentation will be made, as reported by Eupen in a statement.
"We are convinced that he will be able to help the team, as well as the whole club, achieve its objectives due to his personality, his experience and his motivation during his two and a half year contract", explained Eupen.
"KAS Eupen warmly welcomes its new coach, who has an excellent record as a player and solid coaching experience at national level. Claude Makelele, who has been the 'engine' in each of the teams where he has played, personifies commitment on the field and the spirit of fair play in football", added the statement.
Eupen has only won two out of 14 matches and occupies the last position in the Belgian league with 10 points.
