Santos Laguna seeks ticket to Copa MX semi-finals
Tonight, Santos Laguna will be looking for their ticket to the semi-finals of the Copa MX when they visit Monterrey's Rayados in what is expected to be a very intense match with several goals.
The Laguna team has had a good performance in this tournament and wants to extend that good streak against a more demanding rival, with whom they usually have good matches on a very challenging field like Rayados, the leader of the Liga MX.
The match will start at 19:00 hours, the referee will be Jorge Antonio Pérez Durán. In case of a tie, a penalty shoot-out will determine the winner. The broadcast will be on Channel 5.
Monterrey finished the first phase as the third general place and came from eliminating Leones Negros from Ascenso MX, a match that had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out after tying 2-2 in regular time.
The team led by Antonio Mohamed is in the lead of the Apertura 2017 with 33 points, while Santos is in 13th position with 16 units.
The Comarca team has had a comeback that leads them well into this match, with good chances of advancing and the confidence they have had throughout the competition.
Santos reached the final phase of the Copa Corona MX as the first place in their group and sixth overall. In the round of 16, they defeated Necaxa 2-0.
Coach Robert Dante Siboldi commented that he will continue rotating his players as he has done throughout the Copa MX, giving confidence to those who have had more participation, such as goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo, who has had an outstanding performance under the goalposts.
Both Rayados and Santos have a pending Liga match that could not be played due to heavy rain, forcing the postponement of this confrontation.
Gael Sandoval, midfielder for the albiverde team, anticipated a very close and difficult match for both contenders. Therefore, Santos knows they need to be very focused.
"We are facing a great rival, a very difficult match awaits us, so we will play head-to-head, with the confidence that our recent performances have given us, so we will seek to advance to the semi-finals with everything we have," he said.
He highlighted the qualities of the rival, who has had a very good performance in both tournaments, as well as being at home with their supporters. However, this does not bother Gael, who knows that there is no tomorrow and they will not hold back.
