About the Proposal
First, the interest of some clubs, which are fighting to avoid relegation, to exempt themselves from relegation in 2017 due to weather and scheduling issues became known. Now, the authorities of these same teams have publicly expressed their desire to increase the number of participants in the Descentralizado Tournament for 2018.
Supporting Teams
Several teams such as Juan Aurich, Cantolao, and Alianza Atlético met today at the Sports Association of Football (ADFP) to explain their proposal, which has sparked several criticisms, as their arguments lack solid justification.
Potential Teams
"The idea is to have 18 teams in 2018. If we can have 20 teams in the future, that would be ideal. Markarián once proposed having 20," said César Alva, president of Juan Aurich.
In that regard, Alva explained that the proposal will be sent to the rest of the teams in the coming days. The situation will be discussed and then the request will be formalized with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).
Financial Investment
"There is a strong investment from the teams. It cannot crumble all of a sudden. It is an investment issue," added Tomás Acha, representative of Cantolao.
