A historic change for football
The FIFA is evaluating modifying the regulations so that players with dual nationality can change their selection despite having made their debut with another and participated in one or two official matches. This would block the preventive moves of top teams.
The approval of this measure would allow dozens of players who have made their debut in the last decade with the most powerful national teams to change their selection. The reform would particularly benefit African teams, as they could count on many players descended from immigrants to Europe.
Currently, the regulations allow a footballer to play for a second national team as long as they have not played any official matches for the first national team and, at the time of their debut, already had the nationality of the new team they want to represent.
Below is a list of the most notable players who could change their selection if FIFA decides to modify the regulations.
