Peruvians suffer different outcomes in "Lima Challenger Copa Claro"
Different fates for Peruvians in the "Lima Challenger Copa Claro". After the defeat suffered yesterday by Juan Pablo Varillas in the first round against Italian Marco Cecchianato (108°ATP) by 6-4 and 6-3, today Nicolás Álvarez also fell in the second round against the same opponent by 6-3 and 6-2.
However, Sergio Galdos, double champion in doubles, remained strong today in the defense of the title along with Uruguayan Ariel Behar, defeating Mauricio Echazú (Peru) and Michael Linzer (Austria) by 6-3 and 6-1.
"Michael and Mauricio play very well from the back. We tried to win the net as much as possible and we played quite comfortably. In the first set they served quite well, especially Mauricio, and as the game went on good opportunities arose that we knew how to take advantage of and that was what made the difference," said Galdos, who along with Behar will face the Argentinean duo Bagnis-Olivo in the quarterfinals.
In other results, Argentinian Carlos Berlocq could not defeat Spaniard Ricardo Ojeda (6-4, 2-6, 6-2). And another one of the pre-seeded players who fell in the first round was Norwegian Casper Ruud, who lost against Dominican José Hernández by 7-5 and 6-3.
