Milwaukee Bucks defeat Boston Celtics in season opener

Giannis Antetokounmpo was the standout player of the game, scoring 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Milwaukee Bucks to a 108-100 victory over the Boston Celtics in their season opener.

A night after a gruesome ankle injury just six minutes into the season cost Boston the loss of their top free agent, Gordon Hayward (possibly for the rest of the season), the Celtics fell to 0-2 by allowing a 11-1 run that put Milwaukee ahead 97-90 with just under three minutes remaining.

Antetokounmpo added 13 rebounds, Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon scored 19 points, and Khris Middleton had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Bucks. Matthew Dellavedova finished with 15 points and hit a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining, after Boston had closed the gap to just two points.

Kyrie Irving scored 17 points and went 7 for 25 in his home debut with his new team, while Jaylen Brown finished with 18 points for the Celtics. Dominican player Al Horford finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 33 minutes of play.
