Arequipa is the second region that obtained the most medals in the National School Games.

Arequipa, after Lima, is the second region in the country that obtained the most medals in the general computation of the National School Sports Games (JDEN) 2017, which took place in the capital of the Republic.

According to the technical report from the Ministry of Education (Minedu), students from Arequipa won 71 medals, 18 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze, while Lima won a total of 155, of which 63 were gold, 51 silver, and 41 bronze.

Third place was Piura with 53 medals; then Junín and Lambayeque, both with 11; while Loreto achieved 9.

In this fifth edition of the JDEN, the participation of six teams from indigenous communities in the women's soccer tournament was highlighted. The members of the champion in this category are from the Quechua community Chanka (Ayacucho) representing the schools José Carlos Mariátegui, San José Bendezú, Mauro Rondines, Oswaldo Regla Cárdenas, and Porfirio Meneses, from the UGEL Huanta.

The sports event lasted two weeks and took place simultaneously at the facilities of La Videna, Campo de Marte, Universidad de Lima, and the Ricardo Palma school, with the participation of approximately 2,500 students from different regions of the country.
