Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could be out until March
German goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer, who underwent foot surgery and was initially expected to be out until January, could finally be absent until March due to longer-than-expected healing, explained the captain of the Bayern team in an interview with the club's television.
"That always depends on the healing process (...) my rehabilitation is going well at the moment, I am very positive and I believe it will get better," admitted the German international goalkeeper.
Manuel Neuer injured his left metatarsal in training and underwent surgery in mid-September. The initial timeline pointed to a return in January to the playing field.
The goalkeeper of Germany's best team and the reigning world champion had just returned to competition on August 26, after a long break due to an injury in April in the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid (2-1, 4-2 for Real) and already had foot problems in March.
Often injured or given rest last season, he has not played for the German national team for almost a year. His last match dates back to October 11, 2016, in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup against Northern Ireland (2-0).
In his absence, Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen is in charge of guarding the 'Mannschaft' goal, as he did brilliantly in the Confederations Cup, which Germany won.
