Panama has been designated as the host of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in 2022, as the contract with the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (ODECABE) was formalized, the Panamanian Sports Institute (Pandeportes) reported on Thursday.
The contract was signed by ODECABE President Steve Stoute, Panama Mayor José Blandón, President of the Panama Olympic Committee (COP) Camilo Amado, and President of the Organizing Committee for the regional sporting event, Henry Pozo.
"With the signing of the contract, a dream that has been years in the making becomes a reality, but now the time for truth begins," said the President of COP in a statement.
The mayor of the capital city highlighted that, despite Panama City being the host of the event, "this is a historic fact that involves the entire country, and the city will contribute the necessary resources and land for the construction of the sports facilities."
Panama City will be the host of the Games for the third time in its history, having organized the fourth edition in 1938 and the eleventh in 1970.
For this 24th edition, the participation of the 38 member nations of ODECABE is expected, competing in 50 disciplines across 39 sports.
