Pumas CU Defeated Águilas UACH 24-14 in Fifth Round of Onefa
Although they started with a tight score, Pumas CU managed to beat Águilas UACH as visitors with a score of 24-14 in the fifth round of activities of the National Student Mexican Football Organization (Onefa).
Despite the fact that the Autonomous University of Chihuahua team had won the last two regular season matches, the UNAM team managed to regain dominance over the northern team.
The home team opened the scoring with a 22-yard pass from Randall Mendoza, which put them ahead 7-0. However, Pumas CU responded with a 99-yard offensive series that ended with a touchdown from Diego de Juan Blez, allowing the capital team to tie the score before halftime (7-7).
It was in the third quarter that the team from the Maximum House of Studies took control of the match. Another long offensive series from the one-yard line brought points with a field goal from Juan Francisco García (7-10).
Later, the feline team scored again with a trick play where the quarterback scored once again and extended their lead on the scoreboard, although they missed the extra point (7-16). The Pumas made their presence felt again when Jerónimo Arzate intercepted one of Randall Mendoza's passes and took it to the end zone. The two-point conversion left a score of 7-24 in favor of the visitors.
The Águilas decided to bring in Sergio Bringas as quarterback. With nine seconds left in the game, Bringas connected with Sergio Gutiérrez to make the score more respectable with 14-24.
