PSG extends lead in Ligue 1 with 6-2 victory over Bordeaux

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Bordeaux (3rd) 6-2 and distance themselves at the top of the Ligue 1 standings, leading Monaco by three points after the completion of the 8th matchday in the French championship.

Brazilian Neymar, with two goals (5' and 40'), Uruguayan Edinson Cavani (12'), Belgian Thomas Meunier (21'), German Julian Draxler (45'), and Kylian Mbappé (58') were the goal scorers for PSG, while Senegalese Younousse Sankharé (31') and Brazilian Malcom from a penalty kick (90') scored for Bordeaux.

A penalty kick marked the match. It was the 40th minute of the game, and referee François Letexier awarded a penalty for a Mbappé fall.

All eyes at Parc des Princes turned to Neymar and Cavani, who had a dispute in the match against Lyon over who would take the penalty (which was missed by the Uruguayan), starting a controversy that threatened to overshadow PSG's good start to the season.

This time it was Neymar who took the ball and deceived the opposing goalkeeper.

PSG's victory allows the team from the French capital to lead the championship with 22 points (7 wins and 1 draw in eight matchdays), three more than Monaco, who opened the matchday with a draw at home against Montpellier (10th) on Friday.

After their defeat in Paris, Bordeaux could lose their place on the provisional podium (15 points), as they could be overtaken by Saint Etienne (14 points), Marseille, who will both play on Sunday against Troyes and Nice (both with 13 points), and Nantes, who will host Metz on Saturday.
