Chris Froome speaks after completing the ascent to Alpe d'Huez on the penultimate stage of the Tour de France.
The virtual winner of the "Grande Boucle" struggled to maintain the yellow jersey against the pressure and attacks of Nairo Quintana on the final climb of this Tour.
Upon his arrival at the finish line, Froome shared his feelings about completing the stage. "I have experienced many emotions and thoughts during this final climb of the Tour de France".
The British rider expressed his gratitude for the work of his teammates, especially Wouter Poels and Richie Porte, who helped him control the distances with Nairo Quintana. "My teammates have been with me at all times. Their work has saved my yellow jersey. Obviously, we were trying to control Nairo Quintana".
Froome suffered during the climb, but managed to hold on in a stage that, despite being short in distance, felt too long for him. "I thought about all the time I spend training away from my wife and family, and that helped me endure until the end. Today's stage was only 110 km but it felt like 300. It's surreal! Winning the Tour de France is an indescribable feeling. Each Tour is different in its own way".
