President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) affirms that the Olympics will not be defeated by "terrorism"

The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, assured that the Olympic Games will not be defeated by "terrorism", amid concerns about possible security problems in host countries that have been targeted by attacks.

In its 131st session in Lima on Wednesday, the IOC ratified Paris as the host of the 2024 Olympic Games and Los Angeles as the host of 2028, in an unprecedented double agreement. Both France and the United States have suffered attacks from extremist organizations.

"We will never say that, for reasons of security, we will not have events. That would be giving a victory to terrorist movements in the world and we will not do that. We are united and we stand tall. We are not willing to let ourselves be defeated by terrorism," Bach said in a press conference.

He assured that security is always a priority for any event and for the Olympic Games, but it is not possible to predict what will happen in seven years or what the situation in the world will be like.

"The organizing committees are aware and will find ways to solve (the security problems), but we cannot predict the challenges," Bach said.

In Munich 1972, an incursion into the Olympic Village by the organization "Black September" resulted in the death of eleven members of the Israeli team, a German police officer, and a helicopter pilot, as well as five members of the commando.

Meanwhile, in 1996 an explosion occurred at the Olympic Park in Atlanta.
