The Bolivia National Team defeated Chile today 1-0 in the altitude of La Paz with a penalty goal scored by striker Juan Carlos 'Conejo' Arce, in the sixteenth match of the Russia 2018 Qualifiers.
Arce converted from the penalty spot in the 58th minute after Colombian referee Wilmar Roldán sanctioned a handball by Marcelo Díaz in the area against a shot by Jorge Flores.
This is Bolivia's first victory against Chile in La Paz in 17 years, breaking the winning streak that the Roja had in the previous three qualifiers where they had always won.
The speed and nerves prevailed in the early minutes of the match, with both teams looking to open the scoring at all costs, although the intensity of the game later decreased.
Bolivia had more opportunities to score and Chile relied mainly on counterattacks, but both teams were imprecise and went into halftime goalless.
After the Verde's goal in the second half, the Roja attacked in search of equalizing the score, but were unsuccessful.
In the last two rounds of the South American qualifiers, Bolivia will face Brazil at home and Uruguay away, while Chile will host Ecuador and face Brazil.
