Rayados de Monterrey maintains undefeated streak in the Mexican League
The Rayados de Monterrey football club maintained their undefeated streak in the 2017 Apertura Tournament of the Liga MX, after giving a 4-1 thrashing to the current Mexican football champion, Chivas de Guadalajara, who suffered their first defeat of the season.
The goals of the match were scored by Paraguayan Celso Ortiz at the fourth minute, Argentinian Rogelio Funes Mori at the 49th, Colombian Dorlan Pabón at the 67th, and his compatriot Avilés Hurtado at the 71st, for the Regiomontano team, and Jair Pereira at the 3rd minute for Chivas. With this result, Rayados reached 10 points and Chivas remained with three.
The match started at a good pace and the Jalisco team quickly took the lead in the scoreboard, after Osvaldo Alanís took a free kick from the right side and Pereira headed it into the net to score the 1-0 at the third minute.
However, their joy didn't last long because the home team reacted immediately, after Pabón received the ball at the edge of the area and passed it to Ortiz, who shot to achieve the 1-1 at the fourth minute.
After that, the pupils of Argentine coach Antonio Mohamed launched themselves forward in search of taking the lead and had threatening attacks, but it all stayed there.
Chivas tried to respond, but they didn't have much clarity up front, so their arrivals didn't represent much of a problem for goalkeeper Hugo González.
Near the end of the first half, Hurtado came close to scoring for Rayados, after he headed the ball in the area, but it went wide.
In the second half, Pabón arrived from the right side and sent a cross to Funes Mori, who simply didn't forgive and scored the 2-1 at the 49th minute.
Monterrey continued in the same vein and Hurtado entered the area, where he was fouled by Carlos Salcido, so a penalty was awarded, which Pabón took and was rejected by goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota, but on the rebound, the same forward arrived to achieve the 3-1 at the 67th.
As if that wasn't enough, Hurtado took care of putting the 4-1 at the 71st minute, after heading the ball into the net in a corner kick from the left side, against a weak defense from the visiting team.
Rayados' attack became a real headache for Chivas and proof of that is that Alfonso González came close to scoring on two occasions, but it all remained just a scare for the "Sacred Herd".
Guadalajara simply couldn't react in the final stretch of the match, so in the end, they suffered their first defeat in the fourth round.
The referee was Roberto García Orozco, who gave yellow cards to Funes Mori and Nicolás Sánchez, for Monterrey, as well as to Jesús Sánchez and Osvaldo Alanís, for Chivas. He also expelled the coach of Guadalajara, Argentine Matías Almeyda.
