Murder of David 'Magic' Mendoza

David 'Magic' Mendoza, former football player for Atlas, Chivas, and Cruz Azul, was murdered on the night of Friday, October 31, 2008, after attending the 3 de marzo stadium following the match between Tecos and América. He was driving a Range Rover, owned by Omar Caro Urias, one of the individuals involved in the case of Rafael Márquez and his alleged connections to drug trafficking.

The former Atlas player, Miguel Zepeda, was also traveling with Mendoza. 'Magic' died at a hospital in Zapopan from gunshot wounds to his chest at the age of 31.
