Murder of David 'Magic' Mendoza

David 'Magic' Mendoza, former football player for Atlas, Chivas, and Cruz Azul, was murdered on the night of Friday, October 31, 2008, after attending the 3 de marzo stadium following the match between Tecos and América. He was driving a Range Rover, owned by Omar Caro Urias, one of the individuals involved in the case of Rafael Márquez and his alleged connections to drug trafficking.

That night in 2008, 'Magic' was accompanied by Omar Caro Urias, who was the manager of a bar owned by Raúl Flores Castro, son of Raúl Flores Hernández 'El Tío', a drug trafficker associated with the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels. The former Atlas player, Miguel Zepeda, was also traveling with Mendoza. 'Magic' died at a hospital in Zapopan from gunshot wounds to his chest at the age of 31.
