Rubén Castro

Rubén Castro gave an interview to the official media of Betis in which he once again praised the figure of Pepe Mel as fundamental to his football revival in the last five years: "Before coming to Betis, I went to a different team every year. With the coach (Pepe Mel) I have been very comfortable since I arrived, he already knew me and knew what I could give. I believe he has been the key to my success in football and especially in Betis."

"If it were up to me, I would retire here. I have enjoyed the people here tremendously since the first day. When I think about retirement, I hope and wish it will be at Betis," says the Canary Islander.

Jorge Molina

Jorge Molina, his usual strike partner, has also benefited him: "I have a special relationship with him because we have been playing together for a long time. We are friends, I am very happy to be with him again. With him, the preseason is much easier. Then on the field, we know each other very well and understand each other marvelously, we know each other's movements."

Rubén has already forgotten the injury he suffered and is looking forward to playing in the preseason: "At first, the injury seemed like just a knock. In the end, it was a small tear that left me a few days without training. I am eager, I feel quite well, and eager to play a game."

Nothing to do, however, with the physical problem that two years ago made him miss several months of competition and weighed down Betis until relegation: "I don't usually get injured much, but that year I missed a whole half of the season. It has been the longest injury I have had, there have been others in my career but they were minor things. There is no secret, eating well and training hard always, nothing more."

Betis has signed several transfers, among which a media figure stands out: Van der Vaart. "Everyone knows Rafael, he has incredible quality. In these trainings, we are getting to know each other a little more, him with me and me with his positioning. I'm sure we will understand each other well, both with me and with all the forwards. We will take advantage of his quality," says Rubén about the Dutchman.

Alongside Rafael will be the gem Ceballos, whom the Canary Islander also praises: "Last year he had a great season, he was one of the best on the team. I congratulate him on the title he has won, I'm sure that when he returns to the team he will contribute a lot. We all know the quality he has, we already know each other and he knows how I play and I know how he plays. I'm sure he will give us a lot."

The all-time leading scorer for Betis still has challenges to fulfill: "I want to play as many games as I can and score as many goals as possible. For a forward, goals are always the most important thing. I am happy to be the player with the most goals with this emblem, it is something very important to me. I thank all my teammates who have helped me a lot to achieve it. For now, we only think about Villarreal, but the second league game is at the Santiago Bernabéu, where I have never scored. I would like to do it."

Finally, Rubén spoke about his personal life, which has welcomed a new member, his son: "I was really looking forward to his arrival, I am very happy to have that child who will be one more at Betis. We will soon get him his membership card. What am I better at? For now, scoring goals. We're taking it slow when it comes to changing diapers," he jokes at the end.
