A young player who arrived this semester from Colón as reinforcement was chosen. The player who broke 19 years without crossing the semifinals limit. Lucas Alario defined with great skill a wall that Fernando Cavenaghi and Tabaré Viudez built 12 minutes from the end when Guaraní was winning 1-0 and tightening the pace to the final. With a subtle right shot, he sent the ball over goalkeeper Alfredo Aguilar. The goal that put him in the Libertadores final.

River secured its classification with ease. Johnatan Maidana held the defense against the few attacks from the Paraguayan team that relied on long balls to their best player in attack, Federico Santander. In the midfield, Matías Kranevitter took over ball recovery, allowing "Lucho" Gonzáles to unleash in attack.

In one of River's few defensive carelessness, Guaraní found the goal that tightened the match at the 61st minute. A rebound in the box was left free to Fernando Fernández who defeated Marcelo Barovero with a left-footed shot along the ground. Under local dominance, the coach Marcelo Gallardo bet on Uruguayan Tabaré Viudez who freed the football that the team needed to regain control of the match.

Viudez received from Cavenaghi and with a precise and lethal pass, enabled Alario who resolved with a shot that sneaked into the goal with suspense as Aguilar came out. The final minutes were calm for the Argentine team, which had clear chances wasted by Sánchez and Cavenaghi.

"This is a huge joy after so long, playing a long-awaited final. It's an emotion to play it again. The challenge is constant, the players don't settle, they have the same effort, the same will," said coach Marcelo Gallardo to FOX Sports.

Now they await the winner of the series between Inter de Porto Alegre and Tigres de Monterrey, who will play this Wednesday in Mexico. If the Brazilians qualify, River will start as the home team on July 29 and close as the away team on August 5. If, on the other hand, the finalist is Tigres, they will play the last match at the Monumental stadium.

Another good news for the Argentinians is that if Tigres reaches the final, they automatically qualify for the Club World Cup, which will be held in Japan this December, among others, with Barcelona and América de Mexico.
