Chapecoense secures classification to the next round of the Copa Sudamericana after emotional penalty shootout
As emotional as it is liberating. Eight months have passed since the tragedy of Chapecoense, and many more will pass, but the feeling of the 'Verdão' fan will still be very recent. And every step that reminds them of the fateful accident will bring to their memory that team that is gone, as it happened this Tuesday at the Arena Condá.
Goalkeeper Jandrei secured Chapecoense's classification to the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, the defending champion, against Argentinian team Defensa y Justicia, thanks to two great saves in the penalty shootout.
In a very even match in which 'Chape' equalized the 1-0 deficit from the first leg, Jandrei saved the penalty shots from Lucas Bareiro and Daniel González and guaranteed his team's qualification for the next round, where they will face the winner of the tie between Flamengo-Palestino.
Emotion, of course, took hold of the more than 11 thousand fans who attended the match, and after the qualification, they took their excitement to the limit, like this fan who couldn't help but cry amidst the celebrations.
