United States defeats Costa Rica in Copa Oro semifinal
The United States national team defeated their Costa Rican counterparts in the semifinal of the Gold Cup. Altidore and Dempsey scored the goals in the last 20 minutes of the match.
The match started with excitement, as in the first minute of the game the Americans approached the rival goal only to hit the post.
In the following minutes, both teams maintained intensity; however, after 15 minutes the pace dropped considerably and there were not many dangerous actions in either area.
At the beginning of the second half, the United States national team squandered an error by the Costa Rican goalkeeper and wasted a cross when there was no goalkeeper in the box.
In the 72nd minute, Clint Dempsey made a great play and played a pass for Altidore to score the first goal of the match.
Just 10 minutes later, Dempsey sealed the victory with a free-kick goal.
The United States awaits the winner of the match between Mexico and Jamaica, which will be played next Sunday.
