"Our style of play is not flashy," says Pablo Zegarra to Depor. "We seek to be effective," he adds. Despite the annoyance of the loss to Alianza Lima, the Sporting Cristal coach is still confident that his way of playing will lead them to the top. He adapts his style depending on the opponent.
►Sporting Cristal: Cristian Ortiz's explanation after the loss to Alianza Lima
Now that you've had time to cool down, what conclusion did you draw from the loss?
That the best team doesn't always win. We were superior to Alianza in the game, and by playing like that, we will win much more than we lose.
You say you wouldn't be at ease playing like Alianza Lima. Are you convinced of your style?
It's not my style, it's Sporting Cristal's, which seeks to achieve positive results based on good play. That will lead to good results in the future.
Can you win playing like them?
I believe that playing well means doing what has been worked on. What is sought. For a team, it may be counterattacking or defending with 10. But for me, playing well is different. It's having control of the game, attacking from the wings, etc. Having more aspects in line with what we want.
Will we never see Sporting Cristal play differently?
If you take something you're not used to, you go against the thoughts. We have a set way and we want to strengthen it. Sometimes the opponent may force you to change, but if they keep you in a game that is uncomfortable for you, there is a problem.
Do you have only one style?
Every game has a different reading. In response to that, we see what is most convenient.
Do you prioritize balance over style?
Both go hand in hand. We have a balance in our attacks and movements.
