Roger Federer Wins Record Eighth Wimbledon Title
Roger Federer won the Wimbledon tournament for the eighth time, a record, defeating Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.
The Swiss surpassed Pete Sampras and William Renshaw, who were crowned seven times at the All England Club. But Federer's eighth title at the only major tournament played on grass courts is especially special.
Roger Federer, 35 years old, had not won here since 2012. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the finals in 2014 and 2015. His first Wimbledon title came in 2003 and he became champion in the next four editions.
Croatian Cilic won the 2014 US Open after defeating Roger Federer in the semifinals. That was his first victory over the Swiss legend.
