Guillermo Ochoa revealed why he decided to accept the offer from Standard de Lieja.

The Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, new reinforcement of Standard de Liege, said that he decided to stay in Europe to fulfill his dream of playing the Champions League rather than returning to Mexico where he could earn more money.

Ochoa, 32, offered his first press conference as a Standard de Liege player on Friday, the fourth team in Europe after his stints at French Ajaccio and Spanish teams Málaga and Granada.

"I could have returned to Mexico where I could earn more money, but I preferred the dream over the money. I want to play the Champions League," Ochoa declared to the Belgian press.

"I'm very happy that a club like Standard, important and big in Belgium, gives me the option to continue my career in Europe and have the possibility to fight for something," he added.

The goalkeeper, who played in the recent Confederations Cup, assured that he has pursued his dreams and made his decisions without paying attention to people's comments.

"I have never paid attention to what people say. I have always sought to build my career based on my desires and decisions, and I am very happy with the path I have taken in Europe," he explained.

He commented that "people in Mexico believe that it is easy to be in Europe, and it is not, especially as a goalkeeper."
