"He regretted what he said," and upon the arrival of the Mexican national team in San Antonio, where they will play their third match of this Gold Cup against Curacao, Jesus Duenas offered an apology for his statements.
WE RECOMMEND: "We don't play to please the people": Dueñas
The Tigres player mentioned after the draw against Jamaica that they don't play to please the fans, this in response to the criticism towards the national team.
Jesus Duenas stated that "we don't play for the people," referring to the criticism about the performance of El Tri against Jamaica.

"It wasn't so much focused on the people or taking revenge on them. Maybe my words were misinterpreted, I didn't mean to say they are not important; on the contrary, they have always supported us both at the Azteca and here in the United States. Maybe it was my mistake due to the heat of the game, because we left booed, but in the achievements we have as a team, their support has been crucial."
Dueñas insisted that his words were misinterpreted, since "the question was about the attendance record in the stadium and I said we were very happy with the fans, that it was a shame that we didn't give them the victory and they left very upset, booing, which is normal because they pay for a ticket to see the National Team win and we want to give them those joys. What I also said is that everything was a consequence of, if we won, we would be happy and so would they."
Dueñas is a serious guy, who speaks honestly and that's why he clarified his words.
However, in recent times he has been involved in several conflicts, like the party he celebrated with some of his Tigres teammates prior to the Liga MX Final, or when he turned down a call-up to the national team to resolve personal matters, something that the coaching staff didn't appreciate.
"I apologize if I hurt you; on the contrary, I repeat, I thank you for the support we have always had and hopefully God will give us your support on Sunday, like the support we had in San Diego and the support we have received on every national team tour; even the support that our teammates had in Russia, all the fans who traveled, is an unconditional support that we always have, and if my words were misinterpreted, I apologize."
