Venus Williams reaches Wimbledon 2017 final
Despite the difficult moment she went through after being involved in a car accident in Florida, Venus Williams has qualified for the final of Wimbledon 2017. The American defeated British player Johana Konta in two sets (6-4 and 6-4).
On the center court, the 37-year-old tennis player demonstrated her power in the exchanges and took advantage of Konta's weakness on the second serve. Konta dreamt of becoming the first British champion at Wimbledon since Virginia Wade achieved it in 1977.
With this result, the former world number one reached her ninth final at the English tournament, which she hadn't achieved since 2009. On the other hand, her next opponent, Spanish player Garbiñe Muguruza, defeated Slovakian player Magdalena Rybarikova (6-1 and 6-1).
"It won't be easy, but I will give it my all," said the five-time Wimbledon champion, who became the oldest player to reach the final of the tournament since her compatriot Martina Navratilova achieved it in 1994, before losing to Spanish player Conchita Martínez.
