The accident occurred at 5:40 p.m. during a torrential rain near the Indoche bridge, when a truck closed the passage to the vehicle belonging to 'Turismo Selva.' The vehicle was carrying passengers from the district of Nueva Cajamarca to the Tarapoto airport.

The players who were in the vehicle are: Ricardo Farro, Saúl Salas, Roberto Aparicio, Ramiro Ríos, Álvaro Ampuero, Wilder Cartagena, Jordan Guivin, Junior Ponce, J. Vélez, H. Arakaki, and Ramiro Cáceres. They had to be assisted by another unit to continue their return journey.
