Strong winds cause second suspension of play at the British Open Golf Championship

Strong gusts of wind have caused the second suspension of play at the British Open Golf Championship, which is taking place this weekend at the legendary Saint Andrews course.

Torrential rains the day before caused a delay of over three hours and prevented about thirty players, including co-leader Dustin Johnson, from completing their second round yesterday.

At seven in the morning, 33 players returned to the positions they had left when the lights went out on Friday to try to finish their round in the wind. After several minutes with balls being blown away by the wind and balance losses, officials decided to suspend play.

Almost another 20 players were waiting for the final results of the second round to check their qualification for the weekend, but they will have to continue in suspense until the wind calms down, play resumes, and this troubled 144th edition of the British Open finally concludes.
