Fox Sports Partners with Facebook to Stream UEFA Champions League Matches

Fox Sports announced on Tuesday a recent partnership with Facebook Inc. to livestream some matches of the UEFA Champions League during the 2017-2018 season.

The network, owned by Twenty-First Century Fox Inc., stated that some club tournament matches will be exclusively broadcasted on Facebook and Fox Sports GO, while other matches will also be simultaneously televised.
Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter Inc. have strengthened their focus on signing contracts to livestream sports events as young audiences increasingly turn to the internet to watch sports, instead of traditional cable services.

Fox Sports will stream Champions League matches in the United States through its Facebook pages starting in September, according to the agreement.

The partnership includes two live matches per day in the group stage, four round of 16 matches, and four quarter-finals, Fox stated.

Facebook also reached an agreement last month with Major League Baseball to livestream 20 league matches this season.

On the other hand, Twitter also reached an agreement on Tuesday with the Canadian Football League to broadcast a 30-minute live program about news, player interviews, and reports about the league, the entity stated.

Last month, Twitter signed a multi-year agreement with the National Football League (NFL) to livestream pre-game coverage and a 30-minute show.
