Mexican driver Alfonso Celis achieved his fourth podium of the season in the World Series Formula V8 3.5 at the Spanish Motorland circuit in Aragon, Spain, by finishing in third place in the first race of the weekend.

Qualifying round

Celis started his day with the first qualifying round, where he achieved fourth place after clocking a lap of 1:41.523 minutes, putting him on the second row of the grid for Saturday afternoon's race.

The race

In the race, the Mexican driver had a difficult start, losing some pace. However, he quickly regained speed and, in the last lap, managed to make a pass that allowed him to climb to third place.

"After two challenging rounds, achieving a podium and a favorable result like this is very positive. It seemed like we were out of the championship fight, but now we are recovering important points," he said.

"I had a difficult start and made a mistake in turn one, going off track. I had the best setup which allowed me to fight with the others. The tires held up and I was able to overtake Nissany in the last corner to climb onto the podium."

"I made a mistake in the start and dropped to third place. I chose a low aerodynamic downforce setup, while others went for high downforce. The second sector was ideal for them. I was the best at managing the tires, considering I had little wing."

"It was a favorable result, I am happy especially for the overtakes. I am showing that I never give up and that I am going for the championship," he concluded.

Teammate's setback

Meanwhile, his teammate and compatriot Diego Menchaca had qualified third, but a mechanical failure relegated him to ninth place for Sunday, when qualifying and the final race of the weekend will take place in Aragon.
