The Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero, champion of Europe in 1995-1996, stated that the Champions League is a "cursed" cup for his former team, which has lost it in five finals, the last one against Real Madrid in May.

"It's a cursed cup. It is because of the entire history," declared the former striker in a press conference held in Guatemala City prior to a commemorative match celebrating the 81 years of Municipal, in which he will share the field with the former Real Madrid player Michel Salgado.
"We hope to win it again," he emphasized with hope and added, jokingly, that if Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy at Real Madrid and wants to leave, Juventus, the Italian club with the most titles at 27, has "plenty of room" for him.
Del Piero, who expressed great joy and happiness to be in Guatemala and wear the scarlet shirt, was part of the squad of 'La Vecchia Signora' that won the last Champions League in 1996 against Borussia Dortmund.
Asked about the "Calciopoli" scandal, when in 2006 a court in Naples sentenced the Turin team to relegation to Serie B and stripped them of their last two 'Scudetti' for match-fixing, Del Piero acknowledged that it was a "dramatic" moment but also very beautiful because some players, like him or Buffon, stayed.
"It was an opportunity to build. It was an unforgettable journey, with many difficulties (...). A complete disaster," said the former Italian player, world champion with his national team in 2006, who expressed confidence that the club will be able to lift the Champions League trophy again soon.
