Mexican Women's Saber Team Wins Pan American Fencing Championship
The Mexican women's saber team claimed the title at the Pan American Fencing Championship, held in this Canadian city, by defeating the representative from the United States in the final.
Mexicans Paola Pliego, Julieta Toledo, Úrsula González, and Vanessa Infante outperformed Americans Mónica Aksamit, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Anne-Elizabeth Stone, and Dagmara Wozniak with a score of 45-40.
On their path to victory, the national team defeated the Colombian team composed of Linda González, Linda Klimavicius, and Jessica Morales (45-33), as well as the Canadian team consisting of Pamela Brind´Amour, Marissa Ponich, and Madison Thurgood, with a score of 45-39.
Venezuela (Alejandra Benítez, Patricia Contreras, Milagros Pastran, and Shia Rodríguez) secured the third position.
This medal adds to the bronze medal achieved by the Mexican men's foil team.
