Comerciantes Unidos found the third goal against Sporting Cristal through a mistake by referee Miguel Santiváñez, at 71 minutes. The judge called a penalty for a foul that had not occurred within the area, as shown by the images of Gol Peru.

​​​​Celeste side Jair Céspedes brought down forward William Palacios, who was heading for the goal. His fall occurred inside the area, but the infraction had occurred earlier.

The judge consulted with his assistant referee, who, from his perspective, the foul was also inside the area. Miguel Santiváñez did not change his decision and ordered the execution of the maximum penalty in football.

Exar Rosales took care of sending the ball to the back of the net after a second finish by decision of Santivañez. The players of Sporting Cristal were totally disheartened.
