The Huaracino mountaineer Víctor Rímac achieved one of his biggest dreams and reached the summit of the imposing Mount Everest to fly the Peruvian flag at the highest point in the world. He climbed 8848 meters to reach his goal two years after surviving an avalanche in the area.
The 31-year-old athlete joined the select group of national mountaineers who have reached this point located in the Himalayas. It should be noted that this was the third time that Rímac attempted to reach the top of Everest.
Víctor Rímac's epic journey bore fruit, as he became the youngest Peruvian to reach the summit without the aid of artificial oxygen. On May 21, he also became the fourth mountaineer to achieve this feat, being Augusto Ortega the first (1992).
The Peruvian is carrying out the project "Cumbre 8000", which involves climbing the fourteen mountains in the world that exceed eight thousand meters in height. He has already done this in four of them: Cho Oyu (8201 m.), Dhaulagiri (8167), Manaslu (8156m), and Everest.
