An Indian mountaineer reached the summit of Everest for the second time in less than a week, setting a new record, her team announced on Sunday.

Anshu Jamsenpa, 37, a mother of two, completed her first ascent of the world's highest mountain (8,848 meters) on May 16. She then took a short break and started again.

Her expedition received the blessing of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the main stream of Tibetan Buddhism.

"Anshu reached the summit of Everest today at 08:00 [02:15 GMT] for the second time this season, setting a new record," said Dawa Lama, from Dream Himalaya Adventures.

The record for the double female ascent of Everest in one season, certified by the Guinness World Records, had been held by Nepali mountaineer Chhurim Sherpa since 2012.
