Real Madrid reaches Champions League final
Now that Real Madrid is in the Cardiff final, that start of the Champions League season seems very distant. The first match back in September was against a tough Sporting Portugal at home, which gave a good scare to the reigning European champions. The Whites ended up turning things around at the very last moment thanks to Alvaro Morata, but the Portuguese team left a great impression and an until then unknown player. Gelson Martins had the Madridistas on their toes on the right wing, both in the first match and in the second one in Lisbon.
This 22-year-old Portuguese, unknown to the general public at that time, stood out for his speed, boldness, audacity and ability to unbalance the game. He soon attracted a lot of rumors that autumn, including a few that linked him to the merengue club.
Although his contract renewal in February, which established a buyout clause of €80M, stopped those interests. Until, according to The Sun, in the last few hours he has once again entered the agenda of Manchester City. Now, Real Madrid is said to be closely following him for months.
