Rumors confirmed: Ricardo Peláez will leave América at the end of Clausura 2017
"I am leaving content, happy, grateful, and leaving the doors open," said the executive to ESPN.
The reasons are personal, apart from that there is no underlying issue. The executive has told the top leaders of Televisa that he needs to take a break. The almost five and a half years he has been in charge have worn him out. The position demands a lot and in these years the tension doesn't give respite. For this reason, Ricardo has confided to his close circle that he needed to stop, to leave now that the team has positive numbers and not to stay until things go wrong and they kick him out.
Peláez believes it is the right time to reinvent himself and surround himself with family, who have accepted this decision. The Board of Directors of Televisa has given him the green light, especially because he was the executive who restored prominence to the club and made it the most successful in Mexican and Concacaf soccer.
Peláez took office in November 2011, when América was experiencing a sports and management crisis, dragging its reputation and occupying the last positions in the standings. Since he arrived, the team has always qualified for the playoffs, and is now on the brink of another one.
Ricardo will leave the club with four titles, two league championships and two Concachampions, which allowed them to go to the Club World Cup twice, in addition to two runner-up finishes. Under his leadership, there have been five coaches: Miguel Herrera, Antonio Mohamed, Gustavo Matosas, Ignacio Ambriz, and Ricardo La Volpe.
