The Ajax has confirmed that its Amsterdam Arena stadium will change its name to 'Johan Cruyff Arena'. The Dutch club reached an agreement of intentions between the stadium management, the club's board, the city mayor, and the city council to change the name of the facility in honor of the runner-up of the 1974 World Cup.
"We are very happy with this tribute to my father. Thanks to everyone who made it possible, especially Mayor Van der Laan," wrote his son Yordi Cryuff on his Twitter account.
The legendary former player and coach of Barcelona, who turned 70 on Tuesday, April 25, will also have a street, square, or bridge named after him in the city, as announced by the Municipality of Amsterdam.
Azulgrana initiative. Barcelona, the team where he also played and coached, has decided that their new stadium where the reserve team, the women's team, and the youth team will train will be called Johan Cruyff. The Azulgrana institution will start building the new field in July of this year.
