Gonzalo Jara returned to training with German Mainz

Gonzalo Jara returned to training with German Mainz, three weeks after the scandal he starred in at the Copa America. The Bundesliga club intends to transfer Jara to another team after the player's controversial action against Uruguay.

"While he is here with us, for me he is just another player," said Mainz coach Martin Schmidt. "We are open to offers. At the moment, Jara is a regular member of the squad and trains normally," he added.

At the end of June, Mainz's sporting director, Christian Heidel, expressed his outrage at the action of the Chilean central defender and stated that the German club wanted to sell him because they felt "ashamed" of their player's provocation. The Chilean defender stuck a finger in Cavani's backside before the latter reacted by giving him a small slap on the face. Feeling the slight contact, Jara also fell to the ground, exaggerating the aggression.

The 29-year-old Chilean was initially punished with a three-match suspension, which was later reduced to two, as decreed by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
