Lima 2019 Pan American Games faced with uncertainty
The uncertainty of the realization of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games is growing. The precipitations that have occurred in the country have added to the list of reasons why this event might have to be canceled.
Nicolás Pacheco: "If Lima 2019 doesn't happen, it will affect us greatly"
The President of the IPD, Óscar Fernández, informed in an interview with El Comercio that during their last visit, the Pan American Sports Organization (ODEPA) was "satisfied with the progress presented by the executing project and COPAL."
How are the progress of the works going? So far, it gives the feeling that not much has been accomplished. This is Fernández's explanation.
"The idea is to have the locations and venues near the event ready to be inaugurated in their fullness and new with some tests done (...) It is convenient for us to arrive about six months before the Pan American Games," said the head of the IPD.
In addition, and if it serves as consolation, Fernández "vouched" that these locations will be among the best that the country will have. "The venues are going to be incredible, but not extremely expensive. The legacy will not leave pharaonic works, because Peru is not in a position for that (...) It will be infrastructure with measured cost, but of quality," he assured.
